What Is The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP)?
The Canadian Dental Care Plan (CDCP) is a healthcare plan provided by the Government of Canada to help cover oral health care services for people under a certain income threshold. The CDCP does not cover all dental procedures, nor does it cover 100% of dental procedures - but it can help to substantially reduce the cost of your dental care if you qualify.
At Shine Dental, we can quickly and accurately check your CDCP coverage to tell you exactly what you’ll owe before your appointment. Call us, and make budgeting for your next dental appointment easy!

Who Qualifies For Canada Dental Care Plan (CDCP)
You may qualify for the CDCP if:
You don’t have access to dental insurance (this includes things like healthcare spending accounts or benefits accessed through a family member)
You and your spouse or common-law partner (if applicable) have filed the previous year’s tax returns in Canada
Your adjusted family net income is less than $90,000
You’re a Canadian resident for tax purposes
People with family incomes between $70,000-$89,999 receive less coverage:
Between $70,000 and $79,999, coverage is at 60% of CDCP established fees
Between $80,000 and $89,999, coverage is at 40% of CDCP established fees
At $90,000 or more, no coverage is offered
How Do I Know If I'm Eligible?
To find out if you are eligible for the CDCP, simply visit the Do You Qualify page, review your eligibility, and then apply for the program if you meet all of the eligibility requirements.
To find out if a procedure is eligible for reimbursement from the CDCP, contact us! You’ll provide your insurance number, then we’ll submit the procedures to the CDCP for preapproval.
Note that the CDCP will not cover 100% of your expenses; the fees covered by the CDCP are below the Manitoba Fee Guide.
How Can I Apply For CDCP?
You can apply for the CDCP by visiting the Apply page after confirming your eligibility; alternatively, you can apply using the automated phone service. Call 1-833-537-4342, select your preferred language, then press 3. Finally, you can speak to a representative from Monday to Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM (but not on statutory holidays).
In order to maintain your CDCP coverage, you need to reapply every year; this is because the CDCP depends on your tax filing from the previous year to confirm eligibility. As your income changes, so too might your CDCP eligibility.
How The CDCP Can Benefit Your Family’s Dental Care
Affordable Family Care
The CDCP uses your family’s total income for eligibility; this means that if one family member is eligible based on income, it is likely that every family member is eligible (as long as they do not have dental insurance through other means).
With such a broad range of dental services covered by the program, most of your family’s dental care may be covered by the plan. Kids, spouses, and parents living with you may all be covered by the program. That’s dental care for everyone in your family, at a fraction of the cost it would be without coverage.
Simplifying Dental Costs For Families
The Canadian Dental Care Plan makes budgeting for dental coverage easy. When Shine is your dental care provider, all you have to do is let us know that you have CDCP coverage. We’ll take your insurance number and run preapprovals for you to limit how much you’ll have to pay up front - we bill CDCP directly.

FAQ
-
The amount that the CDCP will cover depends on the procedure and your income level. We offer preapprovals at our clinics; we submit the treatments and their cost to the CDCP, and they tell us how much they’ll cover. We then tell you how much you’ll need to pay yourself.

You will receive a letter including your coverage start date and a member card from Sun Life, which administers the CDCP on behalf of the Government of Canada. You’ll also receive a letter from the Government of Canada, which will include:

All you need to book an appointment using the CDCP is your member ID; the letter from the Government of Canada can also be accessed on your My Service Canada Account (MSCA). You can check the status of your application using the CDCP Status Checker.
