OrthodonticsOrthodontics - or the practice of straightening teeth - has come a very long way in the recent past. In the past, we would not discuss straightening teeth until all the adult teeth were present. Nowadays, treatment modalities are now discussed as early as age 5 instead of waiting for all the adult teeth to come in! Research has revealed that by diagnosing and fixing problems early, the need for and/or the wear time for braces at a later date is decreased. |

OrthodonticsDr. Brent Wong has taken many courses all over North America to learn more about the practice of orthodontics. Shine Dental treats patients at three levels: Phase I moves the jaws and the teeth into proper position with appliances to correct different arch length discrepancies. Phase II uses braces or Invisalign to fine tune the straightening of teeth. Phase III is the retention phase that holds the teeth in the proper position to aid in the prevention of relapses. |

Phase IMost often, the bulk of the work is completed in phase I. Here we correct crossbites, deep bites, shifted jaws, retruded or protruded lower jaws, tongue thrust habits and thumb sucking habits. This is achieved by either removable or permanently cemented appliances. This phase typically lasts 9 months. If you are satisfied with your teeth are after this phase, you can stop. If we agree that more work is necessary, we will proceed to phase II. |

Phase IIIn Phase II, we fine tune the straightening process to achieve a perfect smile by using braces or Invisalign. Typically we use metal braces with a metal wire, but you can also choose clear braces which make the braces look virtually invisible. Or for an even more invisible look, try our Invisalign nearly invisible trays. No wires, no metal! |

Phase IIIAfter all your hard work, we hope to keep the amazing results of your transformation intact. So, we implement a type of retention. This can be in the form of removable retainers or wires behind the teeth that permanently hold the teeth in their new positions.
