Meet Dr. Brent

My lovely bride, Wendy, and I were married in the Dominican Republic in the Spring of 2005. We were joined with our families for a week of rest and relaxation. Wendy is an interior designer who can be credited with the beautiful design of SHINE DENTAL. We work together running dental clinics and as motivational speakers here and around the world.

My Family

On July 7th, 2007 Wendy and I welcomed our first child, Jonah, to this world. Jonah was 7 lbs 6 oz and was 20.5 inches long. I find being a father to be one of the best things that has ever happened to me and I love seeing the world through Jonah's eyes! Jonah travelled with us to various cities in 5 countries in his first year with us! He has become a great little traveller.

On March 4th, 2009 we welcomed our second child, Isaiah. Isaiah was 7 lbs 2oz and 20 inches long. We were able to have a home birth with aid from our midwife, Gisele and her amazing team. The boys are 20 months apart, which will hopefully make them best buds!

Dental History

I graduated in 1996 with a B.Sc.(hons) in Science and in 2000 from the faculty of dentistry at the University of Manitoba. I associated for 4 years in St. Vital before opening my very own office in August of 2004.

Since graduating, I have maintained a desire to upgrade my knowledge of dentistry by attending many continuing education courses all over the world. These courses focus on cosmetic dentistry, orthodontics, CEREC all ceramic, one appointment restorations, dental implants and advances in dental technology.

The same year I graduated from dentistry, I was asked to help teach at the Faculty of Dentistry. Since then, I've acquired the dental contracts at Stony Mountain Institute, Headingley Correctional Centre and Milner Ridge Institute. But, since the beginning of 2007, I've decided to concentrate full-time on my practice, cosmetic dentistry and implantology.

My Goal

I make it my personal goal to educate my patients as much as possible, so that together we can come up with a treatment plan that best suits your unique personal and financial situation. I enjoy working on patients that are 'dental phobic'. Many people have come from other offices where they needed to be sedated and now don't need a thing! If you've been in before, you'll know that appointments at Shine Dental are always laid back, relaxing and will always be filled with laughter - the all time best medicine!

My Passion

Another of my passions is helping the less fortunate of the world who lack the luxury of regular dental visits. Through various organizations, I have found myself setting up make-shift mobile dental clinics in over seven villages in Mexico, and Kitwe, Zambia and Maputo, Mozambique. In the fall of 2005, Wendy and I set up a charitable organization called, Shine the Light Ministries.

We desire to bring teams of capable people to third world countries to provide locals with precious medical aid while forever changing the hearts of the North American workers. With numerous missions trips each year, we plan to set up a permanent dental clinic in the Dominican Republic interior in the near future!
